Echoes of the Deep was written as a response to how humans have affected whale populations around the world. Ever since I was a child, I have absolutely loved whales. Their massive size mixed with their playful nature always made me smile. While writing this piece, I imagined what it would be like to have a conversation with a giant blue whale. What stories would it tell? What wisdom
would it share?

During my research, I delved into the fascinating world of whale communication. I discovered the intricate ways in which whales interact and communicate with each other, from the haunting songs of humpbacks to the clicks and squeaks of beluga whales. Inspired by this discovery, I decided to incorporate field recordings of different types of whales from around the world into the composition.

In Echoes of the Deep, you'll first find yourself immersed in a conversation with a majestic blue whale, surrounded by the vastness of the ocean. Then, as the music unfolds, you'll join in a playful exchange with a beluga whale, experiencingthe joy and camaraderie that exists among these intelligent creatures. Through these sonic encounters, the piece aims to not only celebrate the beauty of whales but also give the audience a glimpse into the lives of these magnificent animals that we are impacting so profoundly.
