Perpetual is a study in motion—how it begins, how it sustains itself, and how it constantly pushes forward. Inspired by both the fleeting nature of perception and the paradox of perpetual motion machines, the piece explores the illusion of endless energy within a system that is always in flux.
Throughout the work, musical gestures emerge like the mechanical "start-up" of a great engine, only to be swept forward into an unstoppable current of sound. The two flutes propel each other in an intricate exchange of interlocking patterns, where momentum is never lost but always evolving. Despite moments that suggest renewal or reset, the motion never fully stops—only shifts, adapts, and presses on, creating an ever-expanding cycle of sound and energy.
